Cast on 30 stitches and start knitting.  Keep going until your piece is 3ft long.  Cast off.

Do whatever takes your fancy.  Use up oddments of wool and create an abstract stripey pattern, show off your knitting skills with lots of different stitches or designs, or use it as an opportunity to teach someone to knit.  It would help if you leave a reasonable length of wool at the start and end if your knitting to be used to sew pieces together.

Send your knitting to us using the form below, together with a small donation.  If you are part of a knitting group, you may want to knit lots of pieces and we will be happy to come and collect them of pieces from you.

We would like to create a scarf at least 1 mile long which requires 1760 pieces of knitting.  If we can raise £3000, it will help us to run our weekly youth club for visually impaired children for 1 year.

Please return your completed pieces to Karen Gullick at

by 1st December 2012 so that we can have them all sewn together by 1st January 2013 and get the scarf officially measured in the week beginning 7th January 2013.
