State of the Art hardware and assistive software for people with a visual impairment.
The Beacon Centre for the Blind has a purpose built IT Suite which is for visually impaired people both in the community and our service users. The suite has 8 computers with assistive programmes such as Zoom Text magnifying software, Jaws and Webbie screen reader assistive programmes, through to the user friendly Dolphin Guide assistive software, suitable for the novice computer user who may wish to simply write a letter, scan a small print document, send an email or browse the web.
On hand to provide support in using these programmes are David Hall and experienced specialist Jaws tutor Mr. Val Smith. By providing our service users with assistance and support to get used to these assistive programmes, we aim to provide a fun and enjoyable activity in learning to use a computer to a level that suits them.
To arrange a visit and find out about all of the services we have to offer, including IT please contact the Activity Centre Manager, Caroline Roberts, on 01902 880111 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
