Roles - out and about
If you’re the sort of person who likes visiting places and getting around the area, the roles below could be for you – ranging from driving to guiding people to speaking on behalf of the Beacon Centre. Or help out in our charity shops.
Van Driver
What it involves:
- Driving around the local community delivering and collecting stock
- Taking deliveries of stock to our charity shops based within the local area
- Driving collectors around to deliver donation bags
Swimming Assistant
What it involves:
- Guiding users on and off transport
- Providing assistance within the changing rooms
- Assisting swimmers while swimming, with trained instructor present
Supermarket Money Collector
What it involves:
- Collecting donations of money at local supermarkets, and perhaps giving out stickers (supplied with bucket from the centre) to the donator
Retail Assistant
What it involves:
- Arranging window displays, shelves and rails
- Serving people on the till
- Customer service
- Helping receive and sort out donations of clothing, books and bric-a-brac etc
- Generally maintaining the tidiness of the shop
- Helping to load and unload the vans
- Steaming and pricing clothing and rotating stock
Money Box Collector
What it involves:
- Visiting local shops and businesses to collect full collection boxes, and deliver back to the centre
- Counting money collected followed by basic administration of filling in paperwork
Minibus Driver
What it involves:
- Driving around the local community picking up and dropping off people who use our services
- Helping people on and off transport (there’s a training course for this role)
Day Trip Guides (Escorts)
What it involves:
- Guiding people on and off transport
- Guide people during the trip
- Participating in shopping activities and walks
You will need to contact Emma Macaulay at the centre, for information on when arranged days out or walks take place through the year.
Ambassador
What it involves:
- Attending cheque presentations
- Giving brief talks about the Beacon Centre at various events
- Talking to the media
- We provide training so you get a good knowledge of the centre
