11.01.11

On the 1st November I went to Shrewsbury for just over a week for my guide dog training. I stayed in a hotel called the Hampton which was very pleasant and I was well looked after.

This is my first guide dog and her name is Amber, she is a German Shepherd crossed with a Golden Retriever and she is 2 years old and quite a large dog.
Whilst I was in Shrewsbury I was taught how to work the dog and how to look after Amber, my trainer is a man called Alan who is very patient and has helped me to work with Amber.

When my training was finished in Shrewsbury me and Amber returned home to Wolverhampton, and after a couple of days rest Alan was out again to see me and Amber and helped us start to learn some local routes that I would be using, this lasted for about three weeks until I was officially signed off and then I was able to go out by myself for the first time with Amber which was very exciting.

Amber has settled in and has made her bed in our utility room, we are getting on very well together and I am looking forward to many happy years of us working together.
