Have your staff received training in blind or visual awareness?

Did you know?

It is estimated there are almost 2 million people with sight loss in the UK, a figure forecast to double to nearly 4 million by 2050.

  • Do you work with or care for people with sight loss ? Could you improve the service you offer?
  • Could you make your services more accessible to visually impaired people?
  • As a business, are you overlooking this section of the Community altogether?
  • Do your services comply with the requirements of The Equality Act 2010?
  • Do you have an effective answer to these questions?

Beacon Centre for the Blind is here to help you

Our training is designed for you. We have a highly skilled training team ready to deliver high quality programmes to your staff. We have a wealth of experience in providing effective solutions to ensure people with sight loss are able to live fuller and more independent lives.

What is Blind Awareness Training?

Giving a good introduction to sight loss, each course ensures that delegates gain valuable, practical experience that addresses both their training and your service needs. Typically our half day programmes cover the following:

  • An experience of what it’s like to be blind or visually impaired.
  • The implication of sight loss, what it means in practical terms.
  • The effects of different eye conditions.
  • Guiding skills: participants learn to guide and be guided in real situations including crowds, up and down steps, through corridors.
  • Equipment and services available for people with visual impairment.
  • How to help and understand the mobility needs of people with a visual impairment.
  • Advice on improving communication with people with sight loss.
  • Your obligations under The Equality Act 2010.
  • Useful preventative advice for delegates themselves.
  • An awareness of the positive impact this can have on your Business.
