Alex aged 77 retired form refereeing in 1983 at the age of 48 renowned for working on every pitch in the country. He also ran workshops for people at the Beacon Centre for the Blind for 33 years and is currently president of the JW Hunt Cup competition.

Alex said " It was a nerve-wracking experience but it was very good. I had a nice chat with Prince Charles about refereeing and football. It was a great honour for me and Wolverhampton I think."
