Job Description
Job Title: IT Trainer
Responsible to: HR Manager
Hours: 30 hours per week (1 year fixed term contract)
Job Purpose: To provide IT training to visually impaired people and provide technical support for presentation equipment within the training and board rooms.
Closing Date - 26th February 2010
Key Tasks:
- Carry out individual assessments to ascertain level of knowledge.
- Have knowledge of the various software programmes available for visually impaired people in order to advise and recommend the most suitable software for them.
- Design learning plans/course material and other documents such as handouts, manuals and exercises for groups and individuals.
- Adapt course/training material to suit the needs of individuals taking into consideration their disability.
- Prepare the learning environment and resources, including setting up the IT with aids and adaptations equipment.
- Deliver training programmes to clients either in a group classroom setting or on a one-to-one basis.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the training and course outcomes.
- Keep up to date records and provide reports as required.
- Coordinate the maintenance of the hardware and software used for training and recommend repairs and upgrades to line manager where appropriate.
- Keep up to date with relevant systems, software and technology.
- Develop the facility via marketing working towards offering more flexible opening times, possibly including evenings and Saturday mornings.
- Provide technical support for the training and board rooms for hiring out to organisations such as interactive whiteboard, IT.
- To work flexibly to suit the needs of the business and clients (if function is developed it could include some evening and weekend work).
- Understand and comply with the equal opportunities and health and safety policies.
- To undertaken training required for the position as and when necessary.
- To undertake any other work that may be reasonably requested for the benefit of the organisation whilst not changing the grade or purpose of the post.

Activity Centre
Job Description: Pottery/Craft Instructor
Hours: 22 hours
Responsible to: Activity Centre Manager
Closing Date - 26th February 2010
JOB PURPOSE
To teach pottery/crafts to visually impaired people and assist them to participate in a wide variety of activities.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
- To devise, plan, prepare and deliver a range of pottery activities recognising the complexities of not only of visual impairment but also any other limiting factors eg physical or learning disabilities.
- To create an environment in which access to activity stimulates and maintains physical and mental health.
- To implement appropriate administrative procedures including:
- Ordering and controlling stock, if applicable.
- Pricing items and issuing receipts.
- To undertake initial and ongoing assessments in order to identify individual needs, and to use these to inform the nature, content and delivery of activity programmes.
- On occasion, to prepare verbal and written reports for a variety of purposes and to maintain records of service users progress in line with the Beacon Centre and Departmental requirements.
- To actively participate in reviews, learning and\or therapy objectives.
- To act as key-worker to a designated number of service users, liaising with staff, carers and representatives of local authorities and health departments.
- To give personal assistance to service users where required.
- To participate actively, positively and constructively in regular supervision and to report any problems\difficulties as a matter of course.
- To actively participate in informal and more formal training courses, as required.
- To undertake such other duties as may reasonably fall within the role of the post and in particular, to assist, if necessary for the safety and well being of a service user, or in the interest of the Organisation, in other duties as may be required.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
All employees have a duty to carry out their work with due regard for the health and safety of themselves, other employees and to the public. To observe health and safety requirements relevant to their activities and co-operate with the Centre as to enable them to carry out their own responsibilities effectively. They must also report to their supervisor every accident, however minor, and also any incident, which could result in injury or damage to plant and equipment, and co-operate in the investigation of accidents with the object of preventing recurrence.
